Futro House by INKA Studio: A Contemporary Holiday Home in Rogača, Serbia
Futro House by INKA Studio in Serbia blends wood, glass, and terrain, creating sunlit courtyards, sculptural facades, and creative interior spaces.
Nestled on the scenic slopes between Avala and Kosmaj mountains, near the tranquil Lake Trešnja, Futro House by INKA Studio (2023) redefines the concept of a contemporary holiday home. This 109 m² residential architecture project is designed as both a serene retreat and an inspiring creative space for artists, blending seamlessly into the natural landscape of Rogača, Serbia.

Harmonious Integration with Nature
The northwest-southeast orientation of Futro House maximizes sunlight exposure throughout the year, enhancing natural warmth and light within the interiors. The house’s placement and form are carefully influenced by the sloped terrain, with the roof mirroring the landscape’s incline. This approach allows the building to appear as if it emerges organically from the earth, creating a subtle yet striking visual connection with the surrounding environment.
A dominant steel eave, covering the porch, extends outward and provides a framework for a future natural green shade. This linear extension visually elongates the house while creating dynamic outdoor micro-ambiences. The design encourages seamless indoor-outdoor living, connecting the interior to two primary outdoor zones: a sunny southwest courtyard and a sheltered northwest porch-courtyard near the entrance. These spaces foster circular movement and active interaction between the house and its surroundings.

Exterior Design and Materials
The exterior of Futro House is intentionally uniform, with the facade and roof clad in thermally treated larch wood. The material underwent a traditional Japanese wood-burning technique, enhancing its weather resistance while achieving a natural, elegant patina. Large glass portals, complemented by sliding wooden shutters, allow the house to adapt to seasonal changes and tenant needs. Closed, the building transforms into a sculptural object in space, offering security and privacy during winter or when unoccupied.

Interior Spaces Designed for Life and Creativity
Inside, the inserted wooden composition along the inner white facade serves as the central design element, integrating the dining table into the architectural fabric of the home. This area functions as the heart of daily life, surrounded by the living room and fireplace, the most frequented space in the house.
The pitched roof forms an integrated night zone within the gallery, offering sleeping quarters without subdividing the space into conventional rooms. The staircase, a reinterpretation of the classic ladder, combines functionality with sculptural quality, emphasizing the journey through the house while maintaining material consistency with the wooden interior composition.

A Home That Adapts to Its Environment
Futro House is a masterclass in adaptive architecture, designed to respond to light, weather, and seasonal occupancy. It balances artistic expression with functionality, offering both an open, inviting environment during summer months and a closed, secure retreat during winter. By merging contemporary design, natural materials, and landscape integration, the house embodies a modern holiday home tailored for creative living.
