In the bustling heart of Hanoi, where urbanization continues to replace natural landscapes, HN08 House by TNT Architecture emerges as a poetic response—a sanctuary of calm, light, and greenery. Designed in 2024 for a three-generation family, this 166-square-meter residence redefines what it means to live close to nature in the city.

A Vision Rooted in Nature and Family

The homeowners dreamed of a retreat where their children could grow up surrounded by fresh air, trees, and sunlight—an experience rare in dense Vietnamese cities. The architects transformed this dream into a layered architectural landscape, where indoor and outdoor spaces flow together in harmony.

Organic Layers of Space and Light

The spatial design of HN08 House revolves around a sequence of verandas, courtyards, voids, and terraces that seamlessly blend one area into another. At the core, a vertical atrium acts as the “lung of the house,” channeling light, air, and connection through all floors. This open void allows the family to stay visually linked while maintaining privacy and comfort across different levels.

A Garden in the Sky

The house’s defining feature is its elevated front garden, which slopes gently toward a playground below. This lush green zone acts as both a visual screen and a noise buffer from the busy street, creating a peaceful foreground. It serves as the emotional heart of the home—a tranquil outdoor retreat for reading, tea, or quiet play under the shade of plants.

Function and Flow Across Seven Levels

  • First Floor: Features a playground and a wooden veranda, echoing traditional Vietnamese architecture. The open-air design encourages social interactions and outdoor family life.
  • Second Floor: Houses a tea room and reception space, connecting directly to the front garden and central void for optimal ventilation and daylight.
  • Third & Fourth Floors: Contain the family’s primary living zones, including the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms—all organized around the atrium to maintain visual openness.
  • Fifth Floor: Dedicated to the master suite, combining privacy with panoramic views of the garden and central courtyard.
  • Sixth Floor: Designed for communal leisure, this level includes a swimming pool, wooden deck, and abundant greenery—creating a tropical urban oasis.
  • Seventh Floor: A worship space, featuring sliding wooden panels and glass walls, integrates cultural reverence with architectural simplicity.
  • Rooftop: Includes technical spaces and a vegetable garden, offering serene city views and an eco-friendly touch.

A Dialogue Between Tradition and Modernity

HN08 House reinterprets the essence of Vietnamese vernacular architecture—the veranda, courtyard, and garden—within a contemporary form. The façade combines glass layers with automated louvers, regulating sunlight and airflow while preserving privacy. Natural materials such as timber and stone create warmth, while modern construction techniques ensure efficiency and sustainability.

A Modern Urban Retreat

By intertwining architecture, nature, and family life, TNT Architecture crafts more than a home—it’s a living ecosystem that nurtures well-being and connection. HN08 House embodies balance: between openness and enclosure, nature and structure, modernity and tradition.

It stands as a reminder that even in the densest urban centers, it’s possible to build a life rooted in light, air, and green harmony.
