Introduction to the X House Design Concept

The X House, located in Ituzaingó, Argentina, is a unique single-story residential design created by Estudio Geya. With a footprint shaped like the letter "X," the design maximizes the available land while respecting the surrounding environment. The project focused on privacy, seamless integration with nature, and efficient spatial organization, creating a home that enhances the lifestyle of its inhabitants.

Site Analysis and Design Constraints

The house is situated within a country club lot measuring 31 meters by 77 meters. Both neighboring lots are already built, and the rear of the house overlooks a golf course. The design challenge was to accommodate the typical needs of a family home while adhering to zoning regulations that required a 4-meter setback from each side boundary. This created an opportunity to enhance the "residual" space often neglected in standard layouts.

Innovative Floor Plan Inspired by an "X" Shape

The design of the house revolves around the X-shaped floor plan, which divides the home into four distinct areas: a private family area, a common family space, a social area, and a garage/service sector. These areas are linked by an internal courtyard, which serves as the core of the house. The courtyard, filled with plants and a tree, provides light and ventilation while connecting each section of the house to the outdoors.

Creating Privacy and Outdoor Connections

Each of the house's areas is carefully oriented to enhance privacy and create strong visual and physical connections with the outdoors. Bedrooms open to enclosed spaces with protected views, while the kitchen faces a landscaped area that offers an intermediate scale between the private and public realms. The living and dining areas, along with the barbecue area, open to expansive green spaces that offer views of the pool and the golf course. This strategic layout ensures that each space feels private while maintaining a sense of openness to nature.
