A Vision for Employee Wellness

KANEKA Corporation, known for its commitment to “wellness first”, envisioned a facility that not only provides medical check-ups and healthcare services for employees but also fosters a holistic approach to well-being. The 625 m² center serves as a hub for health awareness programs, exercise events, and relaxation spaces aimed at improving work-life balance.

Sustainability and Nature Integration

The facility is built on a previously neglected thicket adjacent to KANEKA’s manufacturing site. Emphasizing sustainable architecture, the design prioritizes the preservation of existing trees. A meticulous 3D scanning process mapped the site’s vegetation, allowing architects to selectively remove invasive species while protecting native flora. The resulting design integrates nature into the built environment, enhancing the center’s biophilic connection.

The structure features polyhedral roofs that extend from the ground, blending the building into the surrounding forest. These roofs are not only an architectural statement but also a canvas for cutting-edge green technologies.

Innovative Environmental Technologies

KANEKA’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the advanced energy-efficient solutions incorporated into the center.

  • Tile-integrated solar cells and transparent solar panels generate clean energy while maintaining aesthetic integrity.
  • Green roofs enhance thermal insulation and biodiversity.
  • External insulation and a double-ventilation system—originally developed by KANEKA for residential use—have been adapted for this medium-sized facility, optimizing indoor climate control based on outdoor temperatures.
  • Deep eaves and superior heat insulation contribute to achieving Net-Zero Energy Building (Net-ZEB) standards, ensuring that the facility operates with a balanced energy footprint.

Beyond its eco-friendly construction, the KANEKA Wellness Center prioritizes human comfort and mental well-being. The interiors feature extensive use of wood, fostering a warm and calming atmosphere. Expansive windows frame lush greenery, reinforcing the restorative power of nature.

Since its completion in 2021, the facility has become an active wellness hub, hosting cooking classes, fitness sessions, and stress-relief programs. It also serves as a tranquil retreat where employees can unwind and recharge, ultimately enhancing productivity and job satisfaction.
