Maneuver Station
New Hyperloop Station
Having the site located on the Mumbai Hwy brought the thought of a new placement for it by building it underground, just the part where the station will be placed so it can be an empty land, and replacing also the Gahunje Rd that crosses the Mumbai Hwy by pushing it forward toward the North and still relate to the Habib rd.
The product of our station came across by visualizing the science behind the hyperloop. The intent of the hyperloop is to decrease time from destination A to destination B, with that in mind a force that plays a factor in delaying the object is wind resistance. While brainstorming designs we thought of adding the wind vector as the station to play as opposites to the Hyperloop being in a single location but in motion. With that in mind we have the solar panels organized in different angles to represent a rhythmic sequence to the wind. Also having the armature as giant A's with ends supporting the second floor gives the station a permanent look in wrapping itself underground staying in Mumbai to Pune city where there is an over crowd of people riding trains to arrive to their destinations can ease as they could wait much less than expected in regular trains. The station was to be designed to separate the arrivals and departures from the loop entering the station is different floor but took that part of design out.
Bringing the Hyperloop to Mumbai also means bringing solutions to the city, by dealing with major issues such as: climate change, paved and unpaved road dust. Leading to the creation of a green roof as a part of the program in the station. A Green roof is well known for its variety of benefits that helps the surrounding environment, so having it means that it will protect the roof membrane against extreme heat, strong winds, and temperature fluctuations. One of the biggest benefits of green roofs is also their reduction of the urban heat, this is due to the plants on the roofs are either reflecting or absorbing heat and lowering the temperature around the building. Improving air quality is also another important issue, the foliage decreases dust in the air and removes pollutants from the atmosphere. The vegetation also absorbs carbon from the air, helping to mitigate climate change while it also improves the air quality by producing oxygen. Not just that but green roofs save on heating and cooling costs as well. While exploring the city it came to our attention that there’s an Electricity shortage, the whole country is going through. Having solar panels as skin for a part of the façade of the building/station will help in generating power for the station; it also will be used as a shading area while waiting for the Pods to arrive.
Having a new technique of building housing that can help in serving as many people as possible, and that’s called the Capsule rooms. Capsule rooms are first to be built in India and that will be in the Maneuver station. The purpose of it is to provide an all-day accommodation for a cheap price. Instead of having a room like in any type of hotel, people will be provided with a space just for sleeping to keep in mind the amount of people that will be coming to the station every day, so the main purpose is sleep and go. How the capsule is formed is enough to comfortably crawl in and sit. They are built side to side next and on top of each other as well just like the idea of bunk beds. Ladders or steps will be provided for those who stay on the top ones, also sliding doors are provided to have privacy.
At the end it was about creating a station relating to the hyperloops and manage around the people entering moving throughout the con. Also keeping in mind, we wanted to enhance the neighborhood and not destroy its’ character. Finally, the station itself will have a sense of belonging with its unique design, comfortable resting housing, shorter hours in their stay and assisting in sustainable factors to help within the station and its surroundings.
