The MAXXI NXT Pavilion, designed by Giorgia Colombo Architetto and Grazzini Tonazzini, is a striking 380 m² cultural installation in Rome, Italy, completed in 2024. The pavilion exemplifies a fusion of theatrical architecture and the Aristotelian concept of quintessence, inviting visitors into an immersive architectural experience.

Conceived as an abstract sculptural volume, the pavilion features a series of vertical screens crafted from galvanized corrugated sheets, their iridescent surfaces creating a dynamic interplay of light and reflection. This design transforms the pavilion into an interactive visual installation, encouraging exploration and discovery through its layered surfaces and thoughtful spatial sequencing.

The pavilion’s façade articulates a dual spatiality: an external representational dimension and an internal experimental space. Externally, the structure evokes a stage-like presence, with three staggered screens forming a dramatic backdrop that defines the pavilion’s public identity. Internally, the focus shifts to play and engagement, enhanced by a reflective water mirror that amplifies light and spatial perception, turning the interior into a realm of experimentation and sensory interaction.
