Oasis House by Shinagawa Arquitetura – Sustainable Countryside Living in Cravinhos, Brazil
Oasis House by Shinagawa Arquitetura is a sustainable Brazilian residence blending passive cooling, natural materials, green roofs, and seamless indoor-outdoor living.
Casa Oásis, designed by Shinagawa Arquitetura, is a contemporary countryside residence in São Paulo, meticulously crafted to respond to the region’s hot climate while seamlessly integrating with the surrounding landscape. Guided by principles of passive thermal comfort, material authenticity, and landscape integration, the project transforms everyday living into an experience of balance, well-being, and architectural elegance.

Climate-Responsive Design
The residence addresses the local climate through a series of passive design strategies. An L-shaped composition, formed by a metallic sandwich roof and a suspended rammed-earth wall, acts as a natural climatic filter, shading the double-height living room. Cobogós, brise-soleils, and ventilated skylights modulate sunlight and airflow, while a reflecting pool and cross ventilation naturally cool the interiors. These strategies deliver thermal efficiency without compromising spatial openness or visual connectivity to the landscape.

Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Integration
Casa Oásis prioritizes fluid spatial organization, balancing private bedrooms with open social areas that connect directly to the garden. The ground floor features all primary living spaces, while a mezzanine on the upper level houses a TV room and office, opening onto a green roof terrace. A metal staircase elegantly links the two levels, reinforcing the home’s contemporary architectural language and promoting circulation with lightness and flow.

Materiality and Aesthetics
Materials play a pivotal role in shaping both the performance and visual identity of the house. The rammed-earth façade references local traditions and provides thermal mass, contrasted by exposed concrete, wood, and glass, which bring modernity and transparency. Inside, custom carpentry, natural finishes, and furniture by Brazilian designers enhance tactile warmth and a sense of authenticity. The green roof above the suites provides natural insulation while strengthening the connection between architecture and landscape.

Sustainable and Ecological Solutions
Sustainability is a cornerstone of the Oasis House project. The residence integrates rainwater harvesting and reuse, solar water heating, and photovoltaic panels, significantly reducing reliance on artificial systems. These interventions complement the passive strategies, ensuring energy efficiency and environmental responsibility while enhancing the comfort and resilience of the home.

Experiential Architecture
More than a shelter, Casa Oásis embodies an architectural experience that celebrates daily life. Its design emphasizes environmental comfort, tactile materiality, and harmony with nature, creating a residence where form, function, and meaning converge. The project reaffirms Shinagawa Arquitetura’s commitment to sensitive, climate-conscious, and innovative residential architecture.
