A Harmonious Blend of Modernism and Functionality

Located in Quinta das Laranjeiras, Brazil, Patio House by Renata Barbugli is a contemporary residence designed for a family that loves hosting and celebrating. The architectural concept revolves around seamless indoor-outdoor integration, emphasizing shared spaces while preserving privacy for more intimate areas.

With an expansive 514 m² layout, the house embraces a modernist aesthetic, characterized by clean lines, minimalist volumetry, and natural materials. The design prioritizes thermal comfort, natural lighting, and ventilation, making it a sustainable and inviting space for gatherings.

An Open-Concept Layout Focused on Social Living

At the core of the project is a central patio, which serves as the heart of the residence, connecting all social areas. The open-plan living spaces extend toward the garden and outdoor entertainment area, creating a fluid transition between indoor and outdoor environments.

The façade design takes advantage of the site’s topography, making the structure appear light and elevated. A Corten steel brise-soleil provides shade and privacy while allowing filtered sunlight to enter the interiors, ensuring a comfortable atmosphere throughout the day.

Materiality: A Balance Between Elegance and Warmth

The choice of materials plays a crucial role in enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. The house features:

  • Cement-coated surfaces and neutral tones, offering a refined, modern look.
  • Wood and natural stone finishes, adding warmth and coziness.
  • Expansive glass openings, maximizing natural light and ventilation.

These elements come together to create an inviting ambiance while maintaining a minimalist and contemporary feel.
