Raga Svara Wellness Center, designed by Shanmugam Associates, is a serene sanctuary dedicated to holistic wellness, ecological sustainability, and sensory rejuvenation. As envisioned by its founders, Raga Svara emphasizes the therapeutic, aesthetic, philosophical, and ecological well-being of its visitors, offering a harmonious connection between the self and nature. The logo, “Pause,” symbolizes the conscious act of slowing down, reflecting, and reconnecting with the body and surroundings.

Biophilic Design Anchored in Nature

Set amidst a 25-acre farm in Rajkot, the design is deeply inspired by the linear terrain, existing old trees, and surrounding agricultural landscape. The project adopts a biophilic design approach, allowing nature to dominate the experience while architectural interventions remain minimal. Zoning is thoughtfully planned around majestic banyan and peepal trees, ensuring that the landscape takes precedence.

The architectural language is grounded in simplicity:

  • Floors merge indoor and outdoor experiences, weaving seamlessly with the landscape.
  • Walls emphasize transparency, offering uninterrupted views of lush vegetation.
  • Roofs feature clean, horizontal exposed concrete slabs, maintaining a subtle, natural aesthetic.

Experiential Spaces for Mind, Body, and Spirit

The reception area welcomes visitors with greenery cascading from the roof, forming a living curtain that sets the tone for a tranquil journey. Key programmatic elements such as the restaurant, library, and swimming pool are framed by existing trees, creating natural zones of congregation. The library, thoughtfully positioned beneath a banyan tree, becomes a symbolic space of learning and reflection.

The swimming pool area, inspired by Gujarat’s stepped wells, integrates shaded spaces with punctured ceilings and granite steps, while the yoga center is carefully situated around mango trees, offering an immersive meditation and reflection environment.

At the rear of the property, the treatment rooms are tucked away for privacy, enhanced by landscaped entry foyers, boutique spaces, and floating roofs that channel natural light.

The Raga Residences, consisting of 20 luxurious units, feature private gardens, pools, and zen spaces. A community garden and circumambulatory bridge frame stunning vistas of Moringa cultivation and the western sun, ensuring every stay nurtures the body and soul.

Interiors Rooted in Local Culture and Craftsmanship

Raga Svara’s interiors blend regional materials, artisanal craftsmanship, and wellness-centric design:

  • Rustic mood boards inspired by four Indian Ragas
  • Natural stones sourced locally
  • Custom furniture in solid teak and rattan
  • Exposed concrete ceilings, wall murals, and flooring that reflect an asymmetrical mandala motif

This approach harmoniously merges aesthetics, cultural identity, and functional wellness spaces, creating a multi-sensory retreat that invites both relaxation and mindfulness.
