Designed by Grido Architects, the Sports Hall Řevnice in Řevnice, Czechia, stands as a multifunctional facility that seamlessly combines school athletics, community use, and modern architectural design. Completed in 2023, this 1,970 m² sports complex serves the pupils of Řevnice primary school, after-school sports clubs, and the wider town community, creating a central hub for physical activity and social interaction.

Integrating Architecture into a Residential Context

The design posed a unique challenge: integrating a large sports hall, measuring approximately 45 × 25 × 10 meters, within a dense, predominantly residential neighborhood along School Street. To minimize visual impact, Grido Architects adopted rounded corners and carefully modulated the hall’s volume, echoing the surrounding residential typologies that often feature extensions, loggias, and pergolas. This strategy allows the building to "dissolve" visually into its environment, maintaining harmony with its context while preserving its functional requirements.

Thoughtful Spatial Planning

The hall’s entrance is carefully positioned alongside a service wing to the east, ensuring it does not disrupt the sight lines of younger students in the adjacent primary school. This strategic placement also respects hygiene requirements and enhances the connecting circulation through a sculptural "falcon" staircase, offering panoramic views of the Brda Mountains.

At the entrance level, the facility accommodates all changing rooms, a clubhouse, and the boiler room. The interior spaces are designed without traditional ceilings, exposing the technological and structural elements to create an open, airy environment suitable for sports and communal events. The underground level features functional support areas and circulation, optimizing the building’s footprint without compromising accessibility.

Materials and Sustainable Design

The hall’s construction incorporates high-quality materials from leading manufacturers such as Rako, Aluprof, Acelor Mittal, and Tarkett, ensuring durability, aesthetic appeal, and user comfort. Large windows and glazed facades provide natural daylighting, reducing reliance on artificial lighting while connecting interior spaces visually to the surrounding landscape.

A Community-Centric Approach

Sports Hall Řevnice exemplifies architecture that prioritizes community engagement. By combining a school gymnasium, athletic oval, and communal facilities, the project promotes physical activity, social interaction, and long-term adaptability. Its design reflects a sensitive approach to scale, context, and user experience, creating a versatile space for sports, events, and education.
