TAA Gallery by TAA DESIGN, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
A sculptural gallery blending geometric forms, light, and movement, creating a dynamic spatial journey that enhances the experience of art.
TAA Gallery by TAA DESIGN in Ho Chi Minh City is conceived as more than an exhibition venue: it is an architectural instrument for storytelling, where space, light, and movement actively shape the experience of art. The 300 m² gallery establishes a dynamic environment that supports creation, display, and exploration, positioning architecture itself as a participant in the artistic narrative.

The project is defined by a composition of interlocking geometric volumes. Rectilinear masses are carefully arranged to form a structured base, while a contrasting curved volume is inserted as a focal element. This interplay between straight and curved geometries creates a layered architectural language, generating depth and visual tension across the façade. The result is a building that feels sculptural and expressive, inviting curiosity even before entry.

Inside, the spatial experience is choreographed as a continuous journey. Rather than a sequence of isolated rooms, the gallery unfolds through a series of interconnected zones that guide visitors intuitively. Diagonal visual axes are established through the strategic placement of low platforms and partition walls, subtly directing movement while maintaining openness. This approach allows visitors to experience the gallery from multiple perspectives, with each transition revealing new relationships between space and artwork.

The alternation between compressed and expansive areas enhances this sense of exploration. Narrow passages create moments of intimacy and focus, while wider spaces allow for contemplation and engagement with larger works. The contrast between linear and curved forms further enriches the experience, introducing variation and rhythm throughout the interior.

Light plays a central role in shaping the atmosphere of the gallery. Natural light is carefully introduced to highlight artworks and define spatial boundaries, while artificial lighting complements and enhances these effects. Light is not treated as a secondary element but as a primary design tool: guiding movement, emphasizing textures, and creating a dialogue between architecture and art.

Materiality reinforces the gallery’s minimalist yet powerful identity. Exposed concrete dominates both exterior and interior surfaces, providing a neutral backdrop that allows artworks to stand out. At the same time, the raw texture of the material adds depth and character, interacting with light to create subtle variations in tone and shadow.

The gallery is designed to remain flexible, accommodating a wide range of exhibitions and artistic expressions. Its open and adaptable layout allows curators and artists to redefine the space for each installation, ensuring that no two experiences are the same. This adaptability transforms the gallery into a living environment, constantly evolving with the art it hosts.

Ultimately, TAA Gallery is an exploration of architecture as a medium of experience. By integrating geometry, light, and movement, TAA DESIGN creates a space where art is not only displayed but also amplified by its surroundings. The building itself becomes part of the exhibition: an ever-changing framework that supports creativity, interpretation, and engagement.
