Located in London, United Kingdom, the Crescent House by DROO Architects (2022) is a masterclass in residential architecture that balances functionality, natural light, and thoughtful interior design. Covering an area of 250 m², this project transforms a compact plot into a spacious, luminous, and highly functional home.

Maximizing Space on a Narrow Plot

The primary design goal for the Crescent House was to optimize the narrow side of the plot. DROO Architects achieved this by carefully orienting the kitchen toward natural light, while integrating a versatile nook for additional storage. This corner elegantly accommodates the homeowner’s library of books, spices, plants, and herbs, turning practical elements into visually appealing features.

The design demonstrates how careful planning and spatial intelligence can make small urban plots feel open and airy.

Interiors Defined by Light and Airiness

Throughout the Crescent House, light plays a central role. Circular skylights punctuate the ceiling, allowing sunlight to filter through at different times of day, transforming the interior atmosphere. The living areas and kitchen are designed to capture this natural light, creating a sense of openness despite the limited footprint.

The pantry doubles as a visual display, showcasing the homeowner’s collection of items while enhancing the feeling of airiness in the overall volume. This attention to both function and aesthetics makes the home feel larger and more inviting.

Harmonious Outdoor Integration

The crescent-shaped layout curves gracefully around an outdoor BBQ area and built-in bench, creating a cohesive and harmonious outdoor space.
