The Kenz House by Srijit Srinivas Architects: A Luxurious Fusion of Modern Design and Nature
The Kenz House blends modern design with nature, featuring sustainable materials, private courtyards, and a climate-responsive architectural approach.
The Kenz House, designed by Srijit Srinivas Architects, is a masterclass in blending modern architectural sensibilities with nature. Located in India, this 8,000-square-foot home is a sanctuary for a family of four, positioned strategically beside the National Highway 66. With a brief that emphasized the desire for a "special" and "new" design, the architects met the challenge with a structure that is both iconic and functional, making the Kenz House an architectural gem.

Design Concept and Structure
The Kenz House is a two-story masterpiece built on a 40-cent plot of land. The design features a unique fusion of two distinct platonic forms: a skewed rectangular base with a triangular addition. This bold, futuristic design is infused with a traditional twist, using burnt brick as the primary material. The exposed brick façade is not just visually striking; it also serves a functional purpose. Lattice-like perforations throughout the brickwork allow natural ventilation and light, creating a dynamic play of light and shadow that transforms the space throughout the day.
The slanted roof enhances the climate-friendly design by facilitating quick water drainage during heavy monsoon seasons while also reducing heat buildup. The Kenz House demonstrates how sustainability and aesthetic appeal can coexist in harmony.

Interior Design: A Seamless Blend of Comfort and Nature
Inside, the design focuses on integrating nature into everyday living. The house’s layout is centered around several internal courtyards and pools that invite greenery and natural light into the core of the space. These courtyards also act as key elements in the home’s natural cooling strategy, aided by skylights and lattice breezeways that promote air circulation.
The heart of the home lies in the dining area, which seamlessly connects to the landscaped pool courtyard, establishing an open, free-flowing space that merges indoor and outdoor living. A floating staircase, with a concrete handrail, acts as both a functional feature and an accent point, adding a contemporary touch to the home’s traditional elements.

Thoughtful Planning for Privacy and Comfort
The Kenz House is designed with an eye for detail, particularly when it comes to privacy and comfort. The bedroom suites are positioned on both floors, each with access to private landscaped courts, offering a serene escape from the bustling world outside. Brick louvers provide privacy while allowing cool breezes to filter through the spaces, ensuring comfort without compromising on style.
On the first floor, a spa area overlooks an internal courtyard, with natural light pouring in through a strategically placed skylight. This clever design ensures that each space feels connected to nature while maintaining a sense of seclusion and tranquility.

Functional Design and Service Spaces
An outhouse for staff is located behind the main structure, ensuring a seamless service flow without disrupting the family’s privacy. A dedicated route connects the Kenz House to the client's parents’ residence, further enhancing the home’s functional design. The terrace has also been meticulously planned to support the home’s services, blending utility with elegance.

Landscape and Materials: A Sensory Experience
The landscape design plays a pivotal role in the Kenz House, with a focus on texture, foliage, and an uncluttered look that complements the rustic warmth of the brick façade. The carefully curated green spaces, both inside and outside, invite relaxation and a closer connection with nature.
Inside, the material palette is a celebration of tactile experiences. Teak wood is used throughout the home, from doors and windows to bespoke furniture pieces, offering a warm contrast to the cool, rugged beauty of the brick. Italian marble floors, hand-picked rugs, and raw cement-finished ceilings contribute to a rich sensory experience. The interior spaces are further elevated by curated artworks that add character and a personal touch to each room.

Sustainability: A Climate-Responsive Home
The Kenz House goes beyond aesthetic appeal by adhering to sustainable building practices. The home is designed as a net-zero energy structure, making it a leader in climate-responsive architecture. From natural ventilation to rainwater drainage, every element of the design is focused on minimizing environmental impact while maximizing comfort for its residents.

The Kenz House: A "Treasure" for Its Residents
The name "Kenz," meaning "treasure" in Arabic, reflects the profound connection the clients feel with their home. The client’s experience of the house, from the soothing sounds of water in the pond to the tranquility of the master bedroom, speaks volumes about the success of the design. The Kenz House is a testament to the architects' ability to create a home that is both visually arresting and functionally efficient, offering a luxurious yet intimate sanctuary for its residents.
The Kenz House by Srijit Srinivas Architects is a breathtaking example of modern architecture that masterfully integrates nature, privacy, and sustainability. Its innovative design, use of natural materials, and commitment to eco-friendly practices make it a standout example of how contemporary homes can blend with their surroundings while offering unparalleled comfort and style.
