Towards a New Symbiosis: The Death and Life of Delirious Sharing Bikes
Transforming Urban Waste into Sustainable Furniture for Inclusive, Vibrant, and Interactive Public Spaces Across Cities.
Due to the rapid and unregulated expansion of shared bicycles and poor handling by regulatory authorities, cities like Shanghai have seen piles of abandoned bicycles, forming what resembles graveyards. To address this issue, a design" Towards a New Symbiosis: The Death and Life of Delirious Sharing Bikes" initiative has been proposed to repurpose these discarded bicycles into functional and aesthetic street furniture. This effort not only reimagines waste but also activates public spaces for community interaction.

A Sustainable Vision for Urban Spaces
The project integrates abandoned bicycle parts to create diverse street furniture that contributes to the urban landscape. This initiative includes:
- Barrier-Free Chairs: Designed for inclusivity and accessibility, these chairs utilize bicycle frames and nylon cloth to offer seating for all.
- Planting Cells: A modular structure made from bicycle wheels, transforming urban green spaces into interactive environments.
- Interactive Lighting Systems: Using solar-powered bicycle parts, these installations enhance street safety and aesthetics at night.
- Commercial Interactive Lights: Innovative lighting sculptures that repurpose bicycle hubs and chains, creating landmarks in commercial plazas.

Honorable Mention Entry: Urbanscape - Symbiosis
This concept, developed by Lin Wei, Ruixiang Liu, and Xueqing Wang, received an honorable mention in the "Urbanscape: Symbiosis" competition. The project exemplifies how sustainable design can foster a harmonious relationship between waste management and urban development.
