Tree House by Íntegra Studio Arquitetura: A Minimalist Hideaway in the Atlantic Forest
A minimalist tree house in Brazil blends Scandinavian interiors with forest views, offering a serene, sustainable retreat among towering Araucaria trees.
Nestled in the lush greenery of São Francisco de Paula in southern Brazil, the Tree House by Íntegra Studio Arquitetura offers a serene architectural retreat where modern design meets untouched nature. Completed in 2022 and occupying a modest 50 square meters (538 square feet), this elevated woodland dwelling is part of the boutique NaCarapina accommodation complex, located on the slopes where Brazil’s sweeping fields transition into the dense Atlantic Forest.

A Forest Retreat Floating Among Araucarias
Designed to blend harmoniously into the mountainous region of Rio Grande do Sul, the Tree House is suspended among iconic Araucaria trees, creating the sensation of floating within the forest canopy. This architectural strategy not only immerses guests in the natural surroundings but also minimizes disruption to the terrain, embracing a low-impact and sustainable design ethos.
The region was chosen specifically for its biodiversity, abundance of water sources, and proximity to varying ecosystems. The architecture responds to this unique location with sensitivity and respect—inviting nature inside while offering comfort and modern amenities.

Architectural Design: Contrast and Coherence
Externally, the structure is clad in cider eucalyptus wood treated with a dark black stain. This finish allows the cabin to disappear into the forest shadows, creating a seamless dialogue with the surrounding trees. In contrast, the interior embraces a light, minimalist aesthetic using marine-grade pine plywood, a material palette inspired by Scandinavian design principles. This juxtaposition between the dark, moody exterior and the bright, warm interior creates an unexpected and delightful sensory transition for visitors.
The interior layout is compact yet efficient. A fully integrated space combines the kitchen and living room, promoting interaction and openness. A mezzanine-level bedroom offers privacy while maintaining connection to the living area below. A single, well-designed bathroom completes the layout.

Embracing Nature Through Smart Spatial Design
A key highlight of the house is the expansive balcony, which extends into the forest canopy. It functions as a sunlit, elevated platform ideal for lounging, dining, or meditative stillness. The built-in bench, crafted from the same eucalyptus wood used throughout the home, doubles as a guardrail and invites guests to fully immerse themselves in the natural environment. This balcony is usable year-round, thanks to its orientation and exposure to sunlight, making it a cherished space in both summer and winter.
Through the use of sustainable materials, efficient space planning, and a deep sensitivity to the forested site, the Tree House exemplifies modern eco-conscious architecture in Brazil. Its compact footprint, careful detailing, and immersive forest experience position it as an architectural gem that prioritizes nature, tranquility, and simplicity.
