Vila do Chapéu Square, designed by Henry Teixeira Arquitetura e Urbanismo, is a prime example of sustainable urban design, seamlessly integrating sports, leisure, and nature in the heart of Taíba Beach, Brazil. Completed in 2024, this 3,775 m² public space enhances community interaction while embracing the region's natural beauty.

Architectural Vision and Design Concept

Located 74 km from Fortaleza, Vila do Chapéu Square serves as a vibrant hub for residents and visitors. Inspired by the surrounding environment of Morro do Chapéu, a stunning coastal landscape with sand dunes, sandstone reefs, and natural pools, the project reflects the area's ecological richness. The design incorporates elements that foster sustainability, accessibility, and multi-functional use.

The square was conceived to cater to a diverse audience, from skaters and surfers to families and fitness enthusiasts. It features:

  • Two skateparks designed for carver skateboarding, accommodating various disciplines such as BMX and rollerblading.
  • Two beach tennis courts, harmonizing with the natural sandscape.
  • A gym with wooden equipment, selected for durability against sea air.
  • A coconut grove and children’s playground, ensuring a welcoming space for all generations.

Skateboarding Meets Surf Culture

Given Taíba's reputation as a premier surfing destination, the integration of surf-inspired skateboarding tracks creates a unique synergy between the sports. The skateparks feature:
