Weavers – Seer Green House by Des Ewing Architects: A Modern Reinterpretation of the English Country Estate
Weavers House by Des Ewing Architects blends traditional country estate elegance with contemporary design, natural materials, and seamless indoor-outdoor living.
A Contemporary Vision of Classic Country Living
Set within the lush landscape of Seer Green, Weavers House by Des Ewing Architects redefines the essence of the modern country home. Designed in 2022, this 900-square-metre residence harmoniously blends traditional estate grandeur with contemporary architectural sensibility, resulting in a property that feels both timeless and distinctly modern.

Inspired by the spatial organization of classic English country houses, the design celebrates proportion, symmetry, and scale—key hallmarks of traditional architecture—while adapting them to the demands of modern family living. The home’s seamless balance of elegance and practicality creates a refined yet livable retreat that stands as a modern interpretation of the rural manor.

Architectural Form and Materiality
The exterior of Weavers House features a sophisticated combination of grey Wienerberger brick, natural stone, and Renson cladding, creating a dialogue between the building and its wooded surroundings. These materials were chosen to echo the earthy tones of the landscape while introducing a sleek contemporary edge.

Large expanses of glazing open the home to nature, framing views of the surrounding forest and allowing daylight to flood the interior. Graceful colonnades mark the transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, blurring the boundaries between architecture and landscape.

Interior Design: Timeless Elegance Meets Modern Comfort
Inside, Weavers House embodies understated luxury. Every space has been thoughtfully composed to reflect the home’s architectural symmetry and sense of calm. Natural materials, warm wood finishes, and soft neutral tones establish an inviting atmosphere throughout.

The interior furnishings and fixtures—sourced from distinguished brands such as Flexform, Poliform, Poltrona Frau, CTO Lighting, Domus Tiles, and Focus Fireplaces—exemplify craftsmanship and contemporary design excellence. Highlights include the iconic Gyrofocus fireplace and bespoke joinery by Murphy Joinery, adding layers of refinement and individuality.

A Seamless Connection with Nature
Landscape architects Park Hood designed the gardens to flow organically around the home, weaving lush planting, meandering pathways, and tranquil water features into the overall design. The outdoor environment extends into a pool and pool house, creating a secluded retreat ideal for relaxation and entertainment.

This connection between architecture and landscape strengthens the home’s relationship with its natural setting—an essential principle of modern sustainable design.

Craftsmanship and Construction Excellence
Executed to perfection by Roskyle Construction and captured in the stunning photography of Donal McCann, Weavers – Seer Green House is a testament to meticulous detailing and a deep respect for tradition. Every material, texture, and proportion reflects the design team’s commitment to quality and harmony.

Ultimately, this project embodies the evolution of the English country estate—a residence that honors history while embracing contemporary living standards. Through thoughtful design, premium craftsmanship, and a profound connection to its environment, Weavers House stands as a modern landmark of British residential architecture.
