Architecture for Water
Architectural approaches to water management, treatment, and integration within built environments.
The Waves: An Opera House Born from Collision of Water and Air on Tallinn's Peninsula
Alina Fedoseeva's waterfront opera house translates the behavior of Baltic waves into vertical metal streams, sweeping base curves, and illuminated public
Opera by the Sea: A Rotating Auditorium on Tallinn's Baltic Waterfront
Emiliya Marinova's flowing opera house dissolves the boundary between city and coastline with continuous public landscape and adaptable performance spaces.
BIO-HOMe, In Praise of Shadows
It has probably happened to all of us that when we were children, we used to lift rocks near the riverbed to surprise the strange insects that were hiding under them in the dark. We, humans, are no different from those insects in terms of preferring the safe space of shadows. That's why we chose shadows to design our house.
Valge Laev: An Opera House That Docks on Tallinn's Baltic Waterfront
Alief Riyadi's shortlisted proposal reads the port, Linnahall, and the Baltic Sea as generators for a transparent civic vessel.
PATH: A Speculative Underwater Trading Hub Off the Coast of Penang
Modular pods and copper infrastructure form an expandable aquatic settlement 125 meters below the Strait of Malacca.
AQUALUTION CENTER /Water purification center/
Project is collection of ecology and tourism history. It should pay homage to the technological achievements and history of the site, repay the debt to nature that has been depleted at the site, and be a place where visitors will come and perceive both the historical significance and the driving and scientific part with its visitor character.
Aquatic Beacon: A Modular Underwater Research Community on the Great Barrier Reef
Speculative underwater architecture positions scientific research and habitation directly within a threatened marine ecosystem off Australia's Pacific coas
Sound Waves: An Opera House That Opens Its Stage to the Baltic Sea
A shortlisted proposal for Tallinn's waterfront dissolves the boundary between auditorium, public hill, and Baltic horizon.
Crisis to Conservation: A Water Research & Awareness Center for Sustainable Water Management in Bangladesh
"Crisis to Conservation" presents an architectural framework for sustainable water management in Bangladesh by integrating research, visible water systems, and public awareness into a resilient Water Research and Awareness Centre that bridges science, policy, and community action.
Aquatic Alveolus: Underwater Architecture Modeled on the Human Body
A shortlisted entry for EHC Pacific reimagines subsea living as an interconnected organism of pods, tunnels, and energy systems.
Gateway to the Deep: A Vertical Architecture for Ocean Floor Access
A pressurized descent system reimagines how architecture might bridge the ocean surface and the sea floor through modular, deployable units.
The Forgotten Edges:Center for Khazan Ecology and Living traditions
This thesis proposes an adaptive socio-ecological infrastructure along Goa’s Khazan water edges to counter urban severance. By replacing rigid boundaries with dynamic spatial strategies, the design restores vulnerable edges into vibrant thresholds for community stewardship, biodiversity, and cultural identity—reconnecting regional ecosystems with local heritage and future resilience.
Floating Urban Village: Sustainable Architecture for a Climate-Resilient Community on Water
A modular floating village uses sustainable architecture, local materials and self-sufficient systems to create resilient life on water.
Cylinder Park: Sustainable Architecture Turns Everyday Waste Into Play
Cylinder Park turns waste buckets into modular play spaces, combining sustainable architecture, reuse, creativity, play, and community life.
A Region-Specific Spatial Framework for Sustainable Water Management and Community Education in Southwest Bangladesh.
Bangladesh faces a growing water crisis due to pollution, overextraction, and inadequate management. This study proposes the country's first integrated, hydrological region-specific Water Research and Awareness Center, linking research, policy, and public education. Focused on the vulnerable Khulna region, it offers a scalable spatial model for sustainable water management and community resilience.
New Opera of the Sea in Tallinn: Wave-Inspired Opera House Architecture Connecting City and Waterfront
A wave-shaped opera house in Tallinn connects city and sea through performance, public space, culture, housing, and waterfront life.
Soundwave: Wave-Inspired Opera House Architecture Connecting Tallinn to the Sea
Soundwave reimagines opera house architecture in Tallinn through wave-inspired forms, public plazas, cultural spaces and coastal identity.

Selected Works From 2022 - 2025, Between Semesters 3 to 8.
Rain
We live under towering skyscrapers, often feeling overwhelmed. To reduce this pressure, we propose a climate-responsive tower. Instead of rigid structures, the design embraces organic curves, creating a softer urban experience. With Singapore’s water agreement ending in 2061, the building integrates a rainwater system for self-sufficiency and security.
LifeCycle
Water crisis is one big issue that has hit human life quietly but severely. This program is supposed to provide a collaborative way of the modern and traditional way of collecting water from nature. To be aware about this global issue and to honor the people around the world who have sacrificed their lives for this cause.
A lot of time has been spent on developing the visual aesthetic of the fog catcher resulting in a well-designed piece. The link to protest is less well developed and feels underexplored.
Awesome work!
