Palimpsest of Play and Pedagogy

The project emerges from the intersection of three critical issues: the lack of child-friendly spaces in traditional madrasas, the shortage of recreational spaces for the surrounding community, and the ongoing challenge of conserving an important historic structure.

A thoughtful and compelling adaptive reuse proposal. The way the project connects heritage conservation with children's play and learning, commerce, and community life is particularly strong. It offers a convincing reinterpretation of the historic caravanserai as a living part of the contemporary neighborhood

SITUATIONS SCHOOL

We believe learning should not be restricted to a specific space, it needs to be a nonstop process, a mindset to transform all human-made environments into learning opportunities. Therefore a school should be a place where children learn how to learn through their own natural behaviours ?play and exploration? and at their own pace.

Kawa Kawa Kindergarten

Learning and playing outside, promotes creativity, collaboration but also kids learn how to trust themselves and be careful. They realize that they can be wet and dirty and survive, the eliminate fears and subconsciously, they see risk part of their play and learning. Risk helps their brains develop ad mature faster. There is a whole forest to explore.

Interesting and skilful integration of the building into the existing site, good consideration of the different functions and opportunities for the children within the kindergarten.

SCHOOL OF THOUGHT

In designing a “school of thought” we have tried to create an amusing environment in order to meet the students’ basic needs, as well as affecting their imagination and curiosity.

Very interesting idea and very engaging use of space. The whole design is aesthetically entertaining from the perspective of kids. Great job on meeting all the requirements of the competition. The modules can be set up as standalone structure which does not require any foundation related solution. However, the presentation having too many modules and trumpets felt like a bit exaggeration which could have been simplified to some extent. Also, usage of glass in a kid’s playground is something that could be avoided.
