BREATHING LIBRARY
The library and the environment flow freely together, as if breathing in unison when a gentle breeze passes by. They intertwine to form a captivating landscape.
The design aims to create a space that fosters the dissemination of knowledge, facilitates information exchange, and seamlessly integrates with the surrounding environment. It envisions an architectural masterpiece that breathes in sync with the ever-evolving times, transforming the library into a cultural hub where people can engage in the vibrant exchange of ideas, basking in the splendor of a fulfilling life. The library harmoniously breathes alongside the dissemination of knowledge, the rapid march of technology, the verdant embrace of nature, and the diverse needs of its patrons——Breathing library.

We firmly believe that with the relentless progress of technology, the advent of the internet, digital media, and virtual reality, libraries must adapt and embrace the shifting tides of time while preserving their timeless functions of learning, research, and book preservation. Our design integrates cutting-edge AI digital technology, network visual communication, and sustainable utilization of natural resources, fostering an environment where individuals can effortlessly access information and engage in meaningful interactions. Through meticulous interior planning, the library provides a shared space for the denizens of the city and its surrounding communities—a space where they can work, exhibit art, and indulge in leisurely pursuits. In doing so, the library not only serves as an abundant repository of knowledge but also amplifies its allure as an all-encompassing and sustainable resource, perpetually evolving to cater to the ever-changing demands of the community. The Breathing Library eagerly embraces diverse modes of learning while shouldering the mantle of education, creativity, and cultural diffusion.

Our design philosophy revolves around seamlessly integrating the building with its natural surroundings, allowing it to harmoniously flow like gentle air. Thus, we have employed two slightly flattened, interlocking "L"-shaped structures, giving rise to a captivating multidimensional space that melds effortlessly with the environment.
The building features two trapezoidal openings on its northern and southern facades, guiding the flow of natural light and air, engendering a sense of natural respiration within its interior. The extending floors mimic luxuriant foliage, engaging in a graceful dialogue with the verdant landscape that envelops the building. With every gentle breeze, the building and the surrounding greenery seem to inhale and exhale in unison, imbuing the space with a lively, invigorating ambiance.

The library is thoughtfully designed to accommodate a diverse range of functionalities, providing citizens with an eclectic array of spaces for learning, research, and enriching experiences. The interior boasts an open and versatile design, with public activity areas thoughtfully scattered throughout the building:
- The atrium serves as a vibrant hub for interaction and relaxation. Infused with natural light, translucent rectangular structures, and lush greenery, the space is adorned with small platforms extending from different floors, creating an enchanting tapestry that invites individuals to freely engage and connect. The water harvested through a rooftop rainwater collection system nourishes the indoor flora, infusing the environment with the vitality of nature. As sunlight filters through the central space, playful rays of light dance upon the floors, akin to a leisurely stroll through a forest.
- The lobby boasts a cozy café, exhibition spaces, and a sunken atrium landscape.
- The two-level reading area allows individuals to immerse themselves in a vast sea of knowledge as they ascend, facilitating the pursuit of intellectual enlightenment.
- The interactive space serves as a versatile realm of experiences, where visitors can fully embrace the wonders of digital advancements, partake in captivating lectures and knowledge-sharing sessions, and participate in a myriad of cultural activities.
- Natural light permeates the building through its breathing apertures, illuminating the interior and casting mesmerizing light and shadow interplays. The design and integrated systems allow natural light, wind, and rainwater to gracefully infiltrate the building, reducing energy consumption

Natural light enters the building through breathing openings, illuminating the interior while creating unique light and shadow effects. Natural light, wind, and rainwater enter the building through the design and integrated systems, reducing energy consumption, enhancing sustainable development capabilities, and fostering a harmonious coexistence between the library and its surroundings. The library and the environment flow freely together, breathing in unison like a gentle breeze. They intertwine, forming a captivating landscape.
As a lifelong learning center, the Breathing Library provides opportunities for knowledge and cultural exchange, entertainment activities, and community services, further expanding the future application areas of libraries in terms of richness and diversity.
