Dissolve — Reimagining Community Through Sustainable Architecture Design
A topographic cultural hub in Boa Vista that fuses concrete, nature, and community—shaping a living landscape of sustainable interaction.
In Boa Vista, Dissolve by Naz Dilsiz and Demir Dikmenoglu redefines the dialogue between built form and the natural environment. The project explores how sustainable architecture design can dissolve the rigid boundaries between structure, culture, and landscape to create a holistic and resilient community space.

At the heart of the design lies a concrete topography, sculpted to form shaded environments that embrace both human activity and environmental continuity. These forms emerge as gentle masses—neither buildings nor ground—but something between, allowing the project to merge with the terrain rather than dominate it. This sculptural base hosts diverse cultural functions: markets, workshops, and performance areas, forming a public platform where tradition and innovation meet.

Above this flowing ground plane, a structural steel grid suspends modular units that provide lodging for artists and visitors. The grid introduces a sense of rhythm and order, contrasting the organic fluidity of the landform beneath it. Together, these two systems—one structural and geometric, the other natural and topographic—establish a living equilibrium that embodies sustainable urban thinking.
The design prioritizes passive environmental strategies and material honesty. The concrete base moderates temperature and provides natural insulation, while the elevated grid ensures airflow and shade. This interplay of mass and lightness results in a climatic balance suitable for the tropical context of Boa Vista. The integration of green surfaces and paved pathways further strengthens the environmental performance, guiding circulation while softening the interface between the artificial and the organic.
Spatially, Dissolve is organized through two primary hub typologies. The first, compact and vertical, accommodates temporary stays and studios for artists. The second, elongated and horizontal, serves as communal housing and collaborative spaces. Both are arranged through a layered system of circulation and structure, encouraging interaction and flexibility. The modular grid allows for future expansion, making the project adaptable to evolving cultural needs.

From the air, the composition appears as a woven network of architecture and landscape—a new cultural ecosystem that lives within the city’s natural morphology. This notion of dissolving architecture into its context extends beyond form; it symbolizes a social and ecological symbiosis. The project stands as a manifesto for sustainable architecture design that values process over permanence and collaboration over isolation.
In doing so, Dissolve transforms architecture into an act of mediation—between nature and artifice, between tradition and progress. The result is not merely a building, but a living topography—a place that breathes, adapts, and grows with its community
