Garden Pavilion by Coolstock: A Modern Architectural Retreat
The Garden Pavilion by Coolstock in Bratislava blends concrete, steel, and wood for a functional, stylish outdoor retreat.
The Garden Pavilion designed by Coolstock in Bratislava, Slovakia, stands as a stunning example of modern architecture blending with nature. Completed in 2023, this pavilion offers an exceptional space for relaxation and recreation, seamlessly integrating with the garden and providing both comfort and aesthetic appeal.

Design Concept and Layout
Located just south of the owner’s family house, the pavilion serves as an extension of their outdoor living space. With a total area of 106 m², it creates a versatile environment for family gatherings and relaxation. The Garden Pavilion is equipped with a summer kitchen, dining area, outdoor living spaces, a fireplace, and sanitary facilities. It also provides ample storage space for garden tools and furniture. Its main purpose is to serve as a summer retreat, offering a covered, shaded space that opens up to the surrounding garden, perfect for leisurely afternoons.

Architectural Features and Materials
The Garden Pavilion is constructed using three key materials: concrete, steel, and wood, arranged in a thoughtful, layered sequence. The exposed concrete cubes are strategically placed within the space, creating a visual separation from the access road to the north and the underground garage ramp to the east. On the southern and western sides, the pavilion opens up to breathtaking views of the garden, creating a connection between the interior and the natural surroundings. Adjustable screens are incorporated to provide shading, especially from the low western sun during the late afternoon.

Concrete and Steel Structure
The foundation of the pavilion features a polished monolithic concrete slab, providing a solid base for the structure. Two exposed concrete cubes sit atop the slab, serving both functional and aesthetic purposes. These cubes are complemented by steel load-bearing elements, which support a ceiling made of glued wooden profiles. The design of the roof ensures natural ventilation, with a slight slope towards the garden, while a vegetation roof covers the structure to prevent overheating of the attic space.

Interior Design and Functionality
The interior of the pavilion is characterized by a unique multi-level floor design, with two distinct height levels. The living space is separated from the kitchen and dining area by a slight elevation, offering a sense of flow and openness. The use of wooden beams throughout the space contributes to a warm and inviting atmosphere, contrasting beautifully with the industrial feel of the concrete and steel elements.

Summer Kitchen and Dining
The pavilion’s summer kitchen and dining area are designed to be functional yet stylish, offering a space for cooking, dining, and enjoying meals in the open air. The surrounding outdoor seating areas are equipped with a fireplace, creating a cozy ambiance for evening gatherings.

The Garden Pavilion by Coolstock is a modern architectural masterpiece that enhances the owners' lifestyle by blending functionality with design. With its innovative use of materials and thoughtful spatial arrangement, the pavilion creates a harmonious relationship between the built environment and the natural world. It stands as a perfect example of how architecture can enhance everyday living.
