LIT! - Illuminating Urban Dark Spaces
Bringing light to dark urban spaces—where safety, design, and community engagement create vibrant city experiences after dark.
Beacons fill the dark vacancy by encouraging people to gather with light and warmth. Located in Bryant Park in Manhattan, "LIT! - BEACONS ON CITY DARK SPOTS" is an innovative urban design architecture program that enhances safety and engagement in public areas. The project features a dynamic playground, an outdoor theater, and a performance space, revitalizing public parks and attracting civic events, especially during nighttime.

Architectural Design for Public Engagement
The playful pavilions, designed with an interactive pulley system and illuminated balloons, create a welcoming atmosphere for communities to safely gather after sunset. The project integrates sustainable lighting solutions, reinforcing the importance of nighttime urban architecture in enhancing city spaces.

Recognized Architectural Innovation
"LIT! - BEACONS ON CITY DARK SPOTS" is a notable work by Xinyu Yi and Feiyi Bie, earning a Jury Commendation in the Beacon 2019 competition for its innovative approach to activating dark urban areas.
By combining architectural design with interactive public installations, the project redefines the role of urban lighting architecture in making cities more inclusive and vibrant after dark.
