Lyonesse Pictures Office by Kii inc.: A Vibrant, Light-Filled Workplace Redefining Collaborative Office Design in Tokyo
Colorful, transparent office design maximizing natural light, flexible zoning, and collaboration within a renovated Tokyo workspace.
The Lyonesse Pictures Office byKii inc., located in Shibuya City, Tokyo, redefines contemporary workplace design through a vibrant yet minimal spatial strategy. Set within a 50-year-old tenant building, the project transforms a compact 176-square-meter floor into a dynamic, light-filled environment tailored for a creative video production company specializing in drama and film.

Maximizing the presence of three large windows, the architects developed an open-plan office layout that enhances natural daylight and spatial continuity. The design concept emphasizes transparency, allowing the entire workspace to be perceived as a cohesive volume while maintaining functional flexibility. This approach supports collaboration, a core value of Lyonesse Pictures, by encouraging fluid interaction between teams and creative disciplines.

The interior design is characterized by a carefully curated palette of saturated and pastel colors, including bright pink, baby blue, and deep green. These colors are strategically applied to furniture and key elements, standing out against a neutral backdrop to create visual identity without overwhelming the space. By intentionally minimizing textures and patterns, the design maintains clarity and openness, reinforcing a sense of calm and order.

Instead of traditional partitions, Kii inc. introduces soft zoning through the use of transparent curtains and color-coded furniture. These elements subtly define different functional areas while preserving visual connections and allowing light to permeate throughout the office. This layered transparency enhances both privacy and openness, striking a balance between individual focus and collective engagement.

As evening approaches, the office atmosphere undergoes a transformation. Integrated lighting placed along curtains and structural elements introduces warm tones that interact with the colored surfaces, creating a more intimate and focused environment. Shadows and reflections enrich the spatial experience, offering a contrasting ambiance to the bright daytime setting.

Overall, the Lyonesse Pictures Office exemplifies innovative office interior design by blending color, light, and spatial fluidity. The project demonstrates how adaptive reuse of existing structures can support modern workplace needs while fostering creativity, collaboration, and well-being.
