The world of mobile photography has come a long way since the first camera phone was introduced in 2000. Fast forward to 2020, and we have a global competition dedicated solely to mobile photography, the Mobile Photography Awards (MPA). The MPA just announced the winners of their 10th Annual selection of the best works of international photography shot with smartphones, and the results are stunning!
The grand prize winner and 10th Annual MPA Photographer of the Year, Dan Liu, a mobile photographer from China, received a cash prize of $3,000 (US). His winning photograph captured the essence of mobile photography perfectly, showcasing the rapid evolution of mobile phone cameras. However, Dan was not the only one who walked away with a prize. The MPA received over 5,700 submissions from more than 75 countries, and the jury selected winners across 20 themed categories, including Architecture and Design.
Speaking of architecture, the winning photograph of the Architecture and Design category, 'Beauty of arches,' captured by Mona Jumaan, was a stunning shot taken with an iPhone XR at the King Hassan Mosque in Morocco. The image showcased the intricate details of the mosque's arches and played with the light and shadows beautifully, making it a well-deserved winner of the category.
MPA founder, Daniel Berman, a photographer and filmmaker based near Toronto, Canada, commented on the rapid evolution of mobile phone cameras, saying, “...the iPhone is still the most widely used by our entrants, but this year we saw a larger variety of camera phones than ever before. Each competition we hold sees the quality of the submitted photos grow by leaps and bounds."
Throughout its ten-year history, the Mobile Photography Awards has become the world’s premiere photography competition for mobile phones and tablets, providing opportunities for photographers and artists to showcase their work in gallery shows produced across the world. The MPA not only offers opportunities for exposure but also annual cash prizes, providing a platform for mobile photographers to earn recognition for their work.
The Mobile Photography Awards is a testament to the incredible evolution of mobile phone photography. With each passing year, the quality of the submitted photos grows by leaps and bounds, showcasing the immense talent of mobile photographers from around the world. The competition not only highlights the technical capabilities of mobile phone cameras but also the creative potential of the art form.
If you're interested in mobile photography or architecture, you won't want to miss the stunning submissions and winners of the 10th Annual Mobile Photography Awards. From intricate details to stunning landscapes, these mobile photographs showcase the immense potential of the art form and provide a glimpse into the future of mobile photography.
