Wicker House, designed by Ming Architects in 2023, is a striking example of contemporary tropical residential architecture in Singapore, blending modern design with natural materials. Covering an area of 4,500 m², the house showcases bright, airy interiors, playful design elements, and strong visual connections to water and greenery, all while maintaining privacy for the homeowners.

The architecture draws inspiration from rattan, with its intricate patterns translated into metal screens, furniture, and a unique feature staircase. This staircase features white bricks imported from Australia, spaced to allow air and light to flow freely throughout the living, dining, and kitchen areas. These elements create dynamic shadow patterns that bring a sense of movement and life into the interior spaces.

The first storey opens seamlessly to the outdoor pool and deck via expansive sliding glass doors. The design encourages natural ventilation and maximizes views of the surrounding landscape. White façade screens filter sunlight, keeping the interiors cool while ensuring privacy, exemplifying a thoughtful approach to tropical climate design.

Materials play a central role in the Wicker House. Terrazzo flooring, onewood ceilings, and light oak furniture establish warmth and continuity throughout the home. Rattan, both as furniture and as inspiration for perforated metal screens, ties the aesthetic together. The interiors are punctuated by vibrant color accents: sky blue kitchen cabinets, burgundy pool deck chairs, and jade and coral tiles in the bathrooms, reflecting the homeowners’ playful, laidback spirit.
