Environmental Architecture
Architecture designed with environmental responsibility, using sustainable materials and climate-responsive strategies.
E-WASTE SYNC: A RECLAMATION CENTRE FOR ELECTRONIC WASTE
E-WASTE SYNC: A Reclamation Centre for Electronic Waste is a proposed formal e-waste recycling facility at Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park, Gazipur. The project transforms informal recycling into a safe, organized and circular system through controlled processing, material recovery, worker welfare, research and training. Climate-responsive façades, daylighting, PV roofing, rainwater management and phytoremediation support environmental performance.
Back to Earth: Floating Canopies for Intergenerational Life in the Park
Furkan Şanlı's shortlisted Huddle entry lifts modular pavilions above the ground to shelter workshops, exhibitions, and a café among birch trees.
The Ocean Hive: A Honeycomb Colony That Grows Unit by Unit Across a Drowned Pacific
An Editor's Choice entry that starts with 20 hexagonal units and expands into floating neighbourhoods arranged around a shared central square at sea.
Breathing-scape: A Moss-Canopied Park in China That Treats Clean Air as a Shared Public Room
Winding trails, moon gates and arch bridges thread a park where tree-like moss canopies are proposed as filters for some of the world's most polluted air.
TAUTEM Architecture Turns a Former Montpellier Daycare into a Social Hub Wrapped Around a Garden
Between Montpellier's Arceaux and Figuerolles districts, a grocery, kitchen and shelter share restored arches and a garden-facing timber wing.
+K Architects Opens Up a São Paulo Building with Pivoting Glass for Greenpeace Brazil's Headquarters
In São Paulo, a retrofit swaps sealed glazing for pivoting panes, steel-and-glass rooms and vines, giving an environmental NGO an office that breathes.
The Zabaleen Melting Pot: Recycling as Architecture in Cairo's Informal Waste Quarter
A vertical recycling complex in Manshiyet Nasser makes waste infrastructure visible, turning material flows into public space and urban identity.
Flower of the Desert
Choosing arid climate and Following bio mimicr design, we came to across a plant that lives in the Namibia desert, Welwitschia which is extremely sustainable in Arid areas and lives about 1000 to 1500 years. The unusual form of this plant keeps the soil under the plant cool and moist. The thick leaves lay on the sand surface and prevent wind erosion aswell.
ECOTent: Turning Shanghai's Balconies into a Living Agricultural Network
A modular retrofit system attaches greenhouse modules to existing residential balconies in Pudong, weaving food production and social life into the facade.
BIOREEF: A Vertical Marine Station That Turns Ocean Plastic Into Coral Reefs
A speculative research and housing station positioned within Pacific currents to collect debris, recycle waste, and restore reef ecosystems.
Aquatic Beacon: A Modular Underwater Research Community on the Great Barrier Reef
Speculative underwater architecture positions scientific research and habitation directly within a threatened marine ecosystem off Australia's Pacific coas
Continental Shelf Recycling Habitat: Architecture Grown from Ocean Waste
A speculative underwater settlement transforms a submerged sinkhole and accumulated marine debris into the foundation for modular, expandable habitation.
Aquatic Alveolus: Underwater Architecture Modeled on the Human Body
A shortlisted entry for EHC Pacific reimagines subsea living as an interconnected organism of pods, tunnels, and energy systems.
Submersion: A Modular Kit for Building Communities Beneath the Ocean
A scalable underwater habitat system organized around repeatable hubs, standardized connections, and renewable infrastructure for long-term subsea living.
Redefining the Pacific: A Stingray-Inspired Underwater Colony That Grows Like a Living Organism
Modular marine pods elevated above the seabed connect into expandable underwater settlements inspired by stingray biology and behavior.
Kelpscape: An Underwater Habitat That Becomes Part of the Kelp Forest
A submersible research vessel designed to be colonized by the very marine ecosystem it studies, blurring the line between architecture and organism.
Operative Sanctuary: Architecture Designed for Marine Life, Not Human Comfort
A speculative underwater habitat reframes sustainable architecture as ecological infrastructure for species threatened by ocean pollution.
Social Nature: Replacing Fences with Landscape to Rethink Animal Shelter Architecture
A layered system of habitats, elevated walkways, and modular pavilions creates a gradient from public park to protected animal territory.
Connection to Traditions: Pressed Earth Housing Shaped by Ghana's Climate
A residential community in Ghana uses passive ventilation, pressed earth walls, and porous courtyard planning to root sustainability in local tradition.
good idea and concept, mostly consistent would have liked to see a bit more of the idea in the materialization - for the rest solid and good idea and design
