Ocean Architecture
Architectural design and urban planning concepts for human habitation and infrastructure in ocean environments.
Opera by the Sea: A Timber Sound Wave That Completes Itself in the Water Below
Nina Niavro's opera house for Estonia raises backlit timber ribs into a waveform, then lets the sea's reflection finish the drawing.
Aquadapt: An Underwater Habitat That Rewrites Its Rooms by the Hour
Curved modules ring the seabed while one shell shifts from breakfast room to cinema, farm and football pitch as residents' needs change.
Tidal Survival: A Biomimetic Habitat That Glows, Moves, and Breathes Beneath the Ocean
Nicholas Miller's shortlisted EHC Pacific entry reimagines underwater habitation as a mobile, bioluminescent organism rather than a rigid capsule.
The Waves: An Opera House Born from Collision of Water and Air on Tallinn's Peninsula
Alina Fedoseeva's waterfront opera house translates the behavior of Baltic waves into vertical metal streams, sweeping base curves, and illuminated public
Valge Laev: An Opera House That Docks on Tallinn's Baltic Waterfront
Alief Riyadi's shortlisted proposal reads the port, Linnahall, and the Baltic Sea as generators for a transparent civic vessel.
Pacific: A Modular Underwater Colony That Grows One Hexagonal Cell at a Time
A shortlisted proposal for a self-sufficient settlement on the Pacific Continental Shelf, scaling from six residents to over six hundred.
PATH: A Speculative Underwater Trading Hub Off the Coast of Penang
Modular pods and copper infrastructure form an expandable aquatic settlement 125 meters below the Strait of Malacca.
Lumination Exploration: Mobile Underwater Vessels Redefine What Architecture Can Be
A fleet of autonomous, shape-shifting habitats navigates Pacific Ocean trenches, turning migration into a form of community planning.
Opera on the Sea: Driftwood Logic Shapes a Timber Opera House on Estonia's Coast
Trevor Orgill's opera house translates the entangled drift of floating timber into a civic building where wood, water, and music converge.
BIOREEF: A Vertical Marine Station That Turns Ocean Plastic Into Coral Reefs
A speculative research and housing station positioned within Pacific currents to collect debris, recycle waste, and restore reef ecosystems.
Cloaked Colonization: A Mobile Underwater Habitat That Moves Like a Fish
Micah Abaya's shortlisted EHC Pacific entry reimagines ocean settlement as a dispersed network of self-sustaining architectural organisms.
Aquatic Beacon: A Modular Underwater Research Community on the Great Barrier Reef
Speculative underwater architecture positions scientific research and habitation directly within a threatened marine ecosystem off Australia's Pacific coas
Continental Shelf Recycling Habitat: Architecture Grown from Ocean Waste
A speculative underwater settlement transforms a submerged sinkhole and accumulated marine debris into the foundation for modular, expandable habitation.
Tsunami Convergenics: Turning Catastrophic Ocean Forces into Underwater Housing Infrastructure
A speculative underwater settlement off the coast of Onagawa, Japan, treats tsunamis and typhoons as energy sources rather than threats.
Aquatic Alveolus: Underwater Architecture Modeled on the Human Body
A shortlisted entry for EHC Pacific reimagines subsea living as an interconnected organism of pods, tunnels, and energy systems.
Immersion: An Opera House Born from Ripples, Sound Waves, and Coastal Terrain
Paulina Walachowska's conceptual opera house translates wave propagation and acoustic geometry into a walkable public landscape.
Submersion: A Modular Kit for Building Communities Beneath the Ocean
A scalable underwater habitat system organized around repeatable hubs, standardized connections, and renewable infrastructure for long-term subsea living.
Redefining the Pacific: A Stingray-Inspired Underwater Colony That Grows Like a Living Organism
Modular marine pods elevated above the seabed connect into expandable underwater settlements inspired by stingray biology and behavior.
Kelpscape: An Underwater Habitat That Becomes Part of the Kelp Forest
A submersible research vessel designed to be colonized by the very marine ecosystem it studies, blurring the line between architecture and organism.
OASIS: A Spherical Underwater Habitat Engineered for Life on the Pacific Shelf
A 16.6-meter geodesic sphere proposes self-sufficient living 200 meters below the Pacific, turning structure into landscape.
